I just got my third Better Sweater and bought it for the first time at an REI store. It was such a nice experience. I've never really reviewed my others anywhere else so this is my first review ever. I have an older one when they first came out and it still looks amazing. I have another one that is embroidered with my office's logo and it is so warm in that frigid environment! If it's summer it's freezing from the AC and this saves me. If's it's winter it keeps me super toasty because we have big windows. I wanted another option rather than the black and teal so I went with the birch white which is marled and will go with just about anything. The way it is a sweater on the outside and fleece on the inside makes it so peasant and comfortable to wear. Wash as instructed for years to come - I did and my original better sweater looks amazing. It gets so soft. No shrinking either. it's a simple and warm jacket that can be layered under a nano-puff for even more warmth. Good experience at REI with the staff and the ease of checkout. First, let me say I usually love Patagonia and love their environmental stewardship the company promotes and this sweater is not the end of my patronage in any fashion, but I really hate this sweater. For starters, it's tiny sized. If you get it, size up one or even two sizes. Secondly, if you have animals that shed, forget about it. The material is itchy and weird- like interwoven and pet hair gets hopelessly stuck no matter how hard you try to get it out. I once spent the good part of an hour with a pair of tweezers. Third, this thing pills so bad after the first wash. It looks so ratty and worn out, I even bought a de-piller and it doesn't really help this sweater. My boss got the staff this sweater after I had already had mine for a few months- and everyone hates it. It is a nice cut and looks flattering. If you have no pets and never wash it, go for it!

I have wanted to purchase the Better Sweater Jacket for YEARS. Friends and family own many jackets always sharing how great the quality is of the brand. When I finally purchased in August 2024 in planning for the Fall weather I was shocked at the fit. I bought a size large, which fits perfectly in all areas except the arms. Meaning I can barely get my arms through the lower part of the jacket arms. I've never experienced this with any brand of clothing. I've tried wearing a few times this week (October 2024) now that the weather is cooling down. It is oddly strange almost like a manufacturing defect. I had such better hopes when buying a higher brand of jacket, which I now can't wear.

So far this jacket has been wonderful. The steam blue is a beautiful color. This jacket has been on my want list for a bit now and I finally ordered it for myself. Definitely a quality item. The zippers are metal which I appreciate! My last jacket from another big brand had plastic zippers and unfortunately they broke over time… The fit of this jacket is good. I’m 5’7 and have a larger chest. I ordered xxl which is my regular size and it fits true to size. Sleeve length is good. Plenty of room and has a nice semi fitted look. I will say it has pilled a little after a couple weeks of normal wear. Nothing concerning with pilling, but I’m sure I will need to use a sweater shaver/comb in the future. It is lightweight, but provides plenty of warmth. Recently it has been around 40 degrees in the Midwest and this has kept me warm.
Would I buy this again? YES.
