Great wear, colour a bit of a let down

February 7, 2024Maybelline's Sky High mascara in other colours has been a staple of mine for a long time. It claims to provide volume and length, be suitable for sensitive eyes, and to extend lashes, while being lightweight and easy to remove. It now comes in three new colours, and I have been lucky enough to test the new burgundy shade.
It comes with a thin, flexible brush that makes it easy to apply, even to the outer corner; I applied it in a zigzag motion from the root, and even after one coat, I could see that my lashes looked longer and more defined. I did pre-curl my lashes, as they are naturally short and straight, but in my opinion it didn't even need a second coat. There can be a little clumping, but the zigzag application and making sure I didn't have too much product on the brush really helps to limit this. It does have a tendency to transfer to my eyelid during application, though that may just be user error, and it's easily removed. Once on, I forgot that I was wearing it, it was so comfortable, I didn't notice any dropping or flaking throughout the day, and it removed really easily with a little micellar water at night.
I have to admit that I'm kind of in two minds about the colour, though. I've never worn a colour mascara before, so I don't really know what I was expecting. The burgundy shade is a really pretty purple on the brush or swatched onto my hand, but once applied it kind of just looks like a soft black/brown. Personally I do like this on myself, but it doesn't really deliver the colour payoff promised and it feels a little boring. I do think the viral claims that it brings out blue eyes are true, mine did seem to pop a little more, and this colour makes my lashes look like they're naturally long and curled rather than being obviously mascara like a black would be, which makes it extremely wearable day to day rather than being a statement like the blue colour, but the fact that it's burgundy really does just disappear on dark lashes (it may show up as more pigmented on someone with blonde lashes).
So overall, I do like this mascara. It lengthens, has great staying power while being easy to remove, and is very comfortable to wear, and the burgundy shade is very natural and wearable...it just doesn't look as burgundy on as it does in the tube, so the colour is a bit of a let down.
Just okay; gives spider-legs effect and doesn't hold curl; washes off easily

August 6, 2024I was curious to try this mascara after hearing rave reviews and seeing photos of a super long lash effect. I typically wear brown mascara so when I saw that it came in brown, I got one to try. I curled my lashes and applied one layer. It looks decent in one layer, but nowhere near the lengthening effects you see in product photos. A second layer adds more length, but I don’t love the effect. I feel like it clumps lashes together a bit, which gives the appearance of thicker, but fewer and very separated lashes without too much volume. I also feel like it doesn’t look very natural because the mascara gives the lashes a sort of blunt tip instead of a naturally tapered one, and it can look a bit caked on and lumpy, so you definitely get a bit of a "spider legs" look that’s very obvious you’re wearing mascara. It also does not hold a curl at all - if they made the brown color in waterproof I would definitely try it since waterproof formulas tend to hold a curl better, but unfortunately they don’t offer the brown in waterproof. Only pros for me were that it does wash off easily using just warm water alone and/or micellar water. And no flakes or smudging all day. I’d say it’s a decent cheaper dupe for Glossier’s Lash Slick which is also a tubing mascara and gives a similar effect but flakes on me, so I do prefer this over the Glossier if I were choosing between the two. Overall, it’s not terrible but it’s an odd formula that can give a bit of a cakey spider-legs look and I probably won’t be reaching for this often and wouldn’t repurchase once I use it up.
Eyelashes long, full and voluminous! I loved the color!

January 28, 2024As a member of the Superdrug Community, I received the new product from Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky Hight Mascara in the shade Burgundy Haze for a test & honest review. I use mascara every day and I have always used it in black colour . I think it's beautiful and I admire makeup with colorful mascaras but I've never actually used it. Before I received this mascara, I thought I wouldn't like it and that it would be something that wasn't compatible with me. In fact, I was surprised because I absolutely loved this mascara and it reinforces my certainty that we really have to try something new. Burgundy colored packaging with a description of the product name in high relief and shinying that stands out over the packaging and for me I found the packaging beautiful, captivating and chic. Flex tower brush with soft bristles that gently applies mascara to the lashes from root to tip, leaving the lashes separated . I have small and short eyelashes, as well as my eyelids are very droopy and this makes my eyes very small and definitely my eyelashes are practically invisible. This mascara leaves my eyelashes long, full and voluminous, which for me made the effect of opening my eyes and giving me a beautiful look, I loved that. Wet and smooth texture that when applied does not stick the lashes together, does not smudge when applied, does not smudge throughout the day and does not smudge when is cleaned. The long-lasting effect of Ski Hight is excellent and I didn't find it necessary to reapply the mask again throughout the day/night. Pigmentation at the right point without being too strong or too weak and the color is close to black but with a subtle difference to something more vibrant. Formula with bamboo extract that nourishes the lashes, which is noticeable. One of the best products I received from the SD Community for testing & review and I loved it. Thank you SD!
Washable (tubing) mascara is NOT easily washable

May 19, 2024LIKE: It’s truly smudge-proof, it lasts all day even through exercise without flaking unlike my other tubing mascaras. It applies easily to a point, and you can build it up slightly, though it won’t give my short lashes the volume that I get with another Korean tubing brand, but I wanted it in brown this time, and this is one of the very few affordable tubing choice in brown. DISLIKE: Not sure why they out “tubing” in the name, cause it’s not really. First time I used it, I tried to wash it off the usual way like I do with my other tubing mascara. The other one easily comes off in chunks at the second stage if double cleansing, after the oil cleanser and with light rubbing during the warm water cleanser stage. This one didn’t budge at all, I had to keep rubbing with almost hot water, and it kept giving me raccoon eyes, which was frustrating, by the time I managed to rub it all off, I had red irritated lids. The second time I tried 2 methods: oil makeup remover on a cotton pad on one eye, and just cleansing water in a cotton pad on another eye. Oil remover one one eye did nothing, so I had to switch to cleansing water eventually, which added to extra rubbing I still had to do with both eyes. So, one eye was more red than the other, but I managed to take it off this way. Then I did the usual facial wash to finish off the job. OVERALL IMPRESSION: Like the staying power, don’t like the removal process. Will probably use it for long days when I need an almost waterproof mascara, but will get a true tubing mascara for every day use.
